EP/Showrunner Jim Johnston is best known as the longtime showrunner of MTV's iconic docu-series "The Real World", producing nineteen seasons across the country and overseas, including the Las Vegas Reunion season and the “Real World Awards Bash”.  Nominated for seven national Emmys, Johnston won as Co-EP of the NBC daytime docu-series "Starting Over", featuring life coaches Iyanla and Rhonda Britten.

 

An accomplished interviewer and multi-cam director, Johnston’s credits include the travel pilot “The Adventure:  Life Changing Travel”, the competition special "Disney's TRYathlon", MTV's "Road Rules", the DIY digital series “Best Year Ever” featuring Todrick Hall, the acclaimed MTV documentary “Return to Duty”, and five Emmy nominated seasons of the WGBH/PBS Kids series “ZOOM”.   For RadicalMedia, Johnston directed a series of comic commercials, “Hulu Has Reality TV”, featuring Chrissy Teigen and reality stars from “Real Housewives”, “Vanderpump Rules”, “The Bachelor”, “Below Deck” and more.   

 

A former VP of Creative Affairs with Bunim-Murray Productions and producer/director of behind-the-scenes EPK's at NBC Entertainment, Johnston began his career as a local news/sports and documentary producer, winning seven local Emmys.  For NBC News, he was post producer of “I-Witness Video” and supervising producer of the daytime interview series “One On One with John Tesh” and the daily magazine series “Real Life”. 

 

A graduate of Ithaca College, Johnston has produced two feature films including the mockumentary “Reboot Camp” (Amazon Prime), winner of best comedy awards at Austin, Maui, and Cinequest film fests, and the Bud Abbott Award at the Garden State Film Festival.
